This is the preliminary draft of a CD containing the complete 1953 and 1954 Ka Mea Ohi  annuals published by Waipahu High School long, long ago.  These pages were created by Ray Garcia on 4 April 2004 as a result of Charley Sawa asking about the feasibility of putting the pages of our Junior and Senior years on the Internet because so many members of the class had lost their copies. To my surprise, modern technology has made it very feasible.

All you need to do now is click on the link at left to the chapter you wish to view, then click on the links to the pages you want to see.  You can even print the pages you want with fairly decent results; it is best, however, to download an image to your computer and use an image processor to print it.  The pages are large enough for the web, but should be larger on a CD.

This draft and other images of our past are available from the main page of links at
http://personalpages.tds.net/~rgarcia/WaipahuHigh54Main/

Scanning the 1953 Ka Mea Ohi was simple, since I had my copy.  Scanning the 1954 annual was difficult, however, because my copy disappeared in the 1960s.  Charley mailed me his copy, taking the risk of it, too, disappearing and 24 hours later it was scanned completely.  The web pages were then created using an automated feature of an antique version of Photoshop.

This is the crude, preliminary draft version and may be revised further to incorporate suggestions.  Also, since the scans show the aging of the pages and include the original autographs; further editing may be necessary.   However, I think that the unedited images convey far more of the reality of  a time long gone, and many of the authors of the autographs have died.

The two annuals are arraned into two folders, KaMeaOhi1953-RGarcia and KaMeaOhi1954-CSawa, as shown at the right.  All images are numbered with the page numbers; for example, page 73 of the annual appears as imag073.  The folders containing the original scans have been deleted from this web version because they take an enormous amount of space.

We hope you enjoy what we have done.
